Once the capital of the Lombard Kingdom until 774, Pavia boasts a rich cultural and architectural heritage. Key landmarks include the Cathedral (Duomo), the Covered Bridge (Ponte Coperto), the famous Certosa di Pavia Monastery, and several medieval towers that define its skyline.

Renowned for its academic tradition, the city is home to the University of Pavia, one of Europe’s oldest universities (founded in 1361). The city offers a vibrant mix of history and intellectual life, supported by a network of university colleges and a strong reputation for excellence in both scientific and humanistic research.
